We started building a native stablecoin product for Scroll.
Mid-stream, Swell asked for one too. Here's how we turned a single Liquity V2 project into two distinct products.
Quill on Scroll and Orki on Swell.

Quill and Orki share a technical spine, yet are shaped for different ecosystems, brands, and users.

Business

Two ecosystems, one launchpad

We began with Scroll. Their zk-rollup tech was already on our radar, and we found a native stablecoin to be an absolute need for their ecosystem. They fully agreed, and an over-collateralized stablecoin was an obvious fit. Liquity V2, which was made available to study before full release, gave us a well-defined technical foundation. That combination let us move early with confidence. A word of appreciation to the team at Liquity. They went out of their way to give us what we needed.

Halfway through, Swell asked for a native stablecoin aligned to their ecosystem. The ask was similar, the context different: collateral emphasis, partners, and audience. The work split in two. Quill stayed Scroll-native; Orki became Swell-native. How did we pull this off without duplicating effort?

"When one became two: how we re-shaped scope and ceremonies."

A nod to Scroll's analog sensibility—pen, paper, precision. Quill feels deliberate: calm hierarchy, clarity over drama.

Orki

Brighter and more playful—aligned to Swell's energy. Same rigor, different voice; the interface meets users where they are.

"Why 'Quill' and 'Orki' fit their chains."

Design

Quill took longer by design. We started from structure, figured out jobs to be done, state logic, and interaction patterns, and then moved on to color and brand. Every critical path was sketched, tested, and tightened.

When Orki arrived, the brand was new but the product patterns were not. We reused what worked, refit what didn't, and shipped faster. Less risk and more fun.

Structure first, then skin. Reusable patterns make the second product faster without feeling derivative.

"Hierarchy, accessibility, and the lo-fi → hi-fi path."

Product

From one track to two

We reorganized roadmaps and ownership so both products could move weekly without blocking each other. Decisions stayed visible, and risks surfaced early. When Liquity faced some challenges of their own, we adapted. Ecosystem-specific asks (assets, partners, ops) were routed to the right track.

Orki benefited from Quill's decisions. With the big questions answered, the second product shipped on a shorter path.

Technical

Same spine, different edges

Quill came first: we mapped the spec to code, decided what to preserve from Liquity V2, and clarified risk and redemption surfaces in the UI.

Technical 00

With Orki, the questions were known. We tuned for Swell's context (collateral emphases, partner stack) and reused proven components and patterns to move faster. Also anticipating Superchain behavior (USDK existing on multiple OP-based chains) as a nice-to-have at build time.

Testing & economics icon

Testing & economics

We treated safety as a requirement, not a phase. Tests covered edge cases (health thresholds, oracle hiccups, redemption stress) and we ran economic checks so designs hold under real gas/volatility—e.g., liquidation profitability and cost per interaction didn't regress.

Delta audits & transparency icon

Delta audits & transparency

Every code delta beyond the upstream fork was audited. Quill (fork of Bold) shipped with an independent report; Orki (fork of Quill) was audited on its delta and naturally had fewer findings. Fixes were back-ported so both codebases benefited. Reports were published for transparency.

ethui icon

ethui

Before mainnet-grade UIs, we used ethui to let stakeholders and QA test like real users: a throwaway testnet (instant accounts), explorer (tx/state), faucet (test funds), and a dedicated subgraph for the UI. This kept demos realistic and shortened review cycles.

How it works

Both products are taught as flows users can reason about. Open a position, understand health, act with a small set of predictable controls, and exit cleanly. The interfaces reduce protocol jargon and keep critical states visible.

Results
Quill Finance

A Scroll-native, over-collateralized stablecoin product with clear onboarding and day-2 operations. Liquity V2 where it counts; a calmer UI that keeps users oriented.

Orki

A Swell-native stablecoin product tuned for the ecosystem's collateral and partners, shipped faster on top of Quill's proven patterns.
