We love to materialise the abstract.
This is our favourite kind of challenge.

Project Overview

Filecoin Station is part of the broader Protocol Labs ecosystem.
It has two jobs: connecting users to decentralized storage and providing rewards for participation. This is quite a transformative vision, since most users aren’t accustomed to the option of keeping their data outside of centralized databases. This meant finding balance between a design that felt familiar and intuitive, especially for users new to Web3 and something that communicated the uniqueness and advantages of the product.

When Filecoin Station approached Subvisual, they made it clear this wasn’t just a design update.

Their powerful Web3 product wasn’t reaching the broad audience it could serve.

Filecoin wanted to sit down with us and discuss how to align their user experience with the utility of their product.

More than just building an interface, we reimagined Filecoin Station’s interface from the ground up.

With every design choice, we are
shaping how people interact with this
remarkable piece of technology.

Our challenge

Filecoin Station’s mission was ambitious. However, the original design presented several barriers.

01

Making a complex product accessible to users unfamiliar with Web3

02

Designing a secure and transparent interface for financial transactions

Preserving Filecoin Station’s modern, futuristic identity within the design

Our method

Every step of our process is made in tandem with our customers’ teams.

1
Kickoff and initial discovery

At the outset, our team worked with Filecoin Station to align on objectives. We define essential features and pain points together, focusing on user interaction, obstacles, and prioritizing simplicity, clarity, and trust.

2
Wireframes and user flow mapping

Here, we focused on creating minimal wireframes to simplify the user flow, mapping how users would navigate tasks and interact with information.

3
Visual design and prototyping

For the visual design, we integrated a space theme with light-mode visuals and high-contrast elements to highlight key actions.

4
Iterative feedback and client collaboration

Each sprint involved presenting new prototypes and incorporating client input to address specific needs, such as data visualization or module details.

5
Polishing the final design

In the final stage, we polished the interface, refining animations, smoothing transitions, and testing for functionality.

I would definitely recommend Subvisual. I like the laid-back and calm atmosphere but also the attention to detail and doing the small things really well.

Filecoin wanted a team that was willing to go beyond
a redesign and work with them to create a real User Experience.
