When you give someone money with expectations attached, you’re betting on expensive infrastructure that was never designed for this.

Aid organizations lose 20–30% of every dollar to verification overhead. Companies run expense auditing operations that cost more than the fraud they’re trying to prevent. Parents give teenagers cash and hope they make good choices. Families set up trust funds with arbitrary age gates that ignore whether the person is actually ready.

The system forces a binary choice: full trust or expensive surveillance.

In this episode, we look at what happens when you take a different approach. Programmable stablecoins let you bake agreements directly into the money itself: rules that enforce themselves automatically, without auditors, without surveillance, without weeks of delay.

We walk through what that actually looks like:

  • Teen allowances with real guardrails (and real autonomy)
  • Milestone-based trust funds tied to life events, not arbitrary ages
  • Corporate expense accounts where the policy enforces itself
  • Aid distribution with 5% overhead instead of 20–30%

And we’re honest about the hard parts: privacy on public blockchains, the messiness of merchant categories, and the thing nobody wants to say out loud — this technology could be used for control, not just alignment.

The infrastructure is here. The question isn’t whether we can build this. It’s whether we build it carefully.
